This poster is a narrative experience in which there is no correct answer. Who is attacking who? Who is the real antagonist and who is defending themselves? Why have these two resorted to violence? The longer one looks at this poster, the more questions arise with few answers in sight. While this piece mimics the horror movie lighting and composition famous in the 1950’s, this piece spins the helpless woman trope on its head. Is she the aggressor or the victim? The ghoulish figures hidden in her hair may or may not lead to the answer. This illustrated poster was a finalist in The Mumedi Mexican Museum of Designs’ International ‘To Death with a Smile’ contest.
